Vol. 7 No. 2 (2025): Artificial Intelligence, Ethics, and Islamic Civilization: Towards a Theology of Digital Humanity

The issue “Artificial Intelligence, Ethics, and Islamic Civilization: Towards a Theology of Digital Humanity” is raised as a response to the profound transformations brought about by artificial intelligence within the social, epistemological, and spiritual landscape of the Muslim world. The novelty of this theme lies in its attempt to interconnect AI, ethics, and Islamic theology within a reflective framework that has not been explored in previous volumes. Artificial intelligence now penetrates the realms of Qur’anic interpretation, Islamic law, and epistemology, thereby demanding new formulations in understanding the relationship between revelation and algorithmic rationality. This issue is also highly contextual amid the emergence of the post-human society and digital civilization, which challenge the very notions of humanity, moral responsibility, and spirituality. Through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates Islamic philosophy, ethics, sociology of knowledge, and contemporary Qur’anic studies, this theme opens new avenues for exploring Islamic epistemology in the age of AI, Sharia ethics in relation to autonomous technologies, and the transformation of digital human spirituality. Academically, this theme makes a significant contribution to filling the discursive gap between Islam and the technological revolution, aligning with the direction of Islamic Studies 5.0 and the growing global discourse on AI Ethics in the Global South.
